Wonderful Wednesday, jounaling ideas

Posted in wonderful Wednesday -scrapbooking with tags , on June 25, 2008 by hollybirdy

As I mentioned in a previous Wonderful Wednesday post, I was looking back through my scrapbook albums and realized that I really enjoy the pages that have two things….

1.  multiple photos

2.  journaling

I talked a little about ways to include multiple photos into a layout here

So today I thought I’d talk about journaling ideas.  I have already devoted another Wonderful Wednesday to journaling and you can take it in here…that just tells you how important the story behind a layout it to me when I am scrapbooking.  It is a HUGE part for me and why I think it is important for me to reorganize my photo storage to better accommodate my need for photos that are out of chronological order (but that is anther days post!).

Having something that is designed for journaling really helps…especially if you find it difficult to make yourself include journaling.  So cute journaling products are always a plus…if it is cute you will be more likely to use it, right?  :)

So the dandilion picture at the top of this post is from Elle’s studio, who has a ton of cute journaling products.    They have these too:

and these:

These month to month baby tags are too neat and might be just what I will order and use on some month to month baby books that I am wanting to make.

I have these:

Very fun.

There are tons of great journaling stamps.  Here is layout done with a really simple stamp that I own.

Now for ideas to on how to journal without the fancy journaling products.

I have seen really cute journaling spots made by painting the cardstock and then writing on the painted area after it is dry.  That is something I want to try soon.

Here I just wrote my story right on a firetruck die cut (I inked the edges of the die cut to make it pop a little).  That is pretty simple…and inexpensive.

I will continue some more journaling ideas in another post….maybe next Wednesday as there are a couple things I want to try.

Gotta run for now…soccer game this evening…gotta fold some laundry and make pizza for dinner.

We had a tree blow down

We were really lucky…if it had fallen any other direction it would have taken out something.  That is our sun room to the left and fence to the right.  We had some strong gusts of wind….and away it went.  Children were in bed and our border collie was safe inside with us.

The boys loved climbing on it for the few days it was on the ground.  I picked the remaining apricots off of it and made apricot crisp. Now all that is left is firewood.  Next year I will have to beg apricots off someone!

Cute, cute blouse made out of an old tired blouse and 2 hankies.    Find it here.

And are these not precious?  Love the pom poms.

Pom-Pom Flip-Flops

It is not summer without posting a flip flop idea, right?  :)

Busy with lots of stuff today…will post more on that later but wanted to put up something for this Monday.

Rain, breif but appreciated

Posted in grateful, my life with tags on June 20, 2008 by hollybirdy

On Wednesday, we got rain!!!

We haven’t had any all summer…so…I will show my appreciation by posting a few pics.

They didn’t need jackets…it was one of those afternoon rain showers that only cooled us off a couple degrees…we were still in the 90s.  My youngest had his first soccer game a few ours after the game…so we appreciated the cooling effect (however minor it was).

Anyway…we were grateful!

Wonderful Wednesday, the little things

Doodlebug has these cute paper frills.  I have seen them on some pages and have loved them…don’t have any however.  Might need to see if my local store has some.

I am out of energy…I think I had something else I wanted to post but can’t think of it right now.

My youngest had his first soccer game tonight…I was coach Holly…and this coach is really tired!

Fun Friday, Surprise project for Dad

Posted in fun friday - kids games and toys, organizing with tags on June 13, 2008 by hollybirdy

A  couple weeks ago, the boys and I decided to surprise their dad.  The back shed behind our house houses the lawnmower, lawn tools, and my hubby’s tools.  So for a small shed…it is packed…and we never had the time to organize it.  So it looked like this….

Needless to say…going out to find a tool for a project was frustrating.

The boys and I worked on it…hung some peg board.  Learned that there are lots of cool peg board hanging thingys (did you know they make a peg board paper towel holder?).  Organized dad’s tools for him…(My oldest loved doing this!):

We played around a little…my youngest is a master at turning a project into goof around time.

And it ended up looking like this:

We completed it in one day…the shopping (2 trips to hardware stores), the hanging of the pegboard and the organizing.  It lacks a tiny bit more work and few more hangers.

Since this was a secret project…to surprise dad…I got a lot more cooperation out of the boys.

My oldest was totally funny…said, “What if we don’t get it done today mom?” I said, “Then we will just have to hope that Dad doesn’t go out to the shed tonight.”  He said, “Not hope, PRAY he doesn’t.”  ;)

So this isn’t my usual…games, toys, etc. for kids Fun Friday post…but it was pretty fun and the boys enjoyed their day so thought it worked.

Oh and Dad was suprised! :)

As a total aside…I fell in love with peg board.  That stuff along with all the cool hanger options…very cool indeed.

Wonderful Wednesday, multi-photo layouts

Posted in scrapbooking, wonderful Wednesday -scrapbooking with tags on June 11, 2008 by hollybirdy

In looking through my layouts…I am finding that I totally enjoy layouts that have lots of journaling…and those that have quite a few pictures.

Today I thought I’d talk about mulit-photo layouts….another day about journaling.

Here is a layout I did a couple years back…5 pics on one page…

And this one…6 pictures on a 2 page LO.

(I had the picture on the left enlarged here by the way).

And here…where I did a Christmas collage…9 pics here:

Here is a blog that is just made to give you ideas for Multi-photo layouts.  I love it that they came back from their break!

I am trying to get inspired as I haven’t had time to do any scrapbooking with all our traveling….now that we are home I would like to fit in some scrapping!

Monday Mission, playing catch-up

Posted in monday mission - organizing/projects with tags , on June 9, 2008 by hollybirdy

We have gone on 2 trips in the past couple weeks…so that is why I have been kinda quiet.  :)

We had a good time on both our trips.  We did SeaWorld San Antonio which was  a lot of fun.  The boys enjoyed the shows and the rides.

Yesterday we got back from going to Kansas for a wedding.  We stopped in Dodge City, KS…we didn’t do a lot there (due to the wind) but it was a fun little town.

So…my Fun Friday is posted below and my Monday Mission will have to be just catching up around here (laundry, Sam’s club run, trip to the library for new books to read on, etc.)

Fun Friday, Focus on your child

I love this little newsletter that we get from Focus on your Family.  It is full of encouraging stories and wonderful advice for Christian parents.

You also get 4 CDs a year with great content, kinda like your very own radio broadcast with parenting/marriage advice.  Love it!

If you are a parent and would like to start these in the mail, leave me a comment or email me at hollybirdy2 @ yahoo.com (no spaces).  I am will buy a  membership for one of you as a blog give away!

Wonderful Wednesday, owl pattern and a couple other things

Posted in wonderful Wednesday -scrapbooking on June 4, 2008 by hollybirdy

Hello scrapbooking friends! :-)

Ignore the title of this picture and take in this owl…

Cute litte owl pattern out of Hallmark magazine this month.  You also get a pattern for a happy little boat and whale. Their idea is to personalize guest towels with them but they would all be super cute on a LO if you cut them out of fabric or paper pieced them.

 I saw this recently…

LOVE, ELSIE RECIPE IDEA...

Description… “Includes 100 recipe cards for layouts (cooking times included), 80 designer tips, 5 featured designers, organizer index tabs, and 1 cool recipe box (makes storage a snap). Use one card at a time in your workspace, or take the entire box with you for endless inspiration! Including inspiration from art, home decor, books, fashion, movies, and music.”

Probably won’t buy it, but a really cute idea don’t you think?  Here is a link to it.

And as an aside, if you have Photo Freedom….or just want to know more about the system…Stacy Julian has been doing a series of blog posts answering some common questions.  Here is a link to her blog.
