Glittery Goodness

Posted in faith, favorite things right now, scrapbooking on February 3, 2010 by hollybirdy

I have been wanting to write a blog post   f o r e v e r.

If you are reading this…then it actually happened! :~)  Yah for me!

On the scrapbooking front, I have fallen in love with glittery things.  I am shocked…..cuz I am really not a glittery type of girl but I plan on rolling with it regardless!

I love Stickles.  I have mentioned this before but my love has grown for Stickles instead of faded.  I dot it on flower centers of flowery pattern paper or put it on each dot on polka dot paper.   Favorite colors are:

Yellow Stickles Decorative Glitter Glueyellow (which takes on the color you put it on so becomes more than just yellow if you like)

Orange Peel Stickles Decorative Glitter Glueorange peel ( I use a lot of orange in scrapbooking – mother of 2 boys and all)

Diamond Stickles Decorative Glitter GlueDiamond (the prettiest IMHO of the “clear” ones)

I picked up a couple sheets of Doodlebug design glitter paper and used paper punches to cut out designs.   I think Doodlebug design calls it sugar coated paper, very cutesy.  After you use your punches, the results are so easy and eye-catching to use as embellishments.   I should post a pic but I am too lazy.  Doodlebug design also has pattern paper with glitter.  So cool.

Here is a pic of one of their glittery pattern papers.  I own this one and still haven’t used it.  Will have to do that soon.

Imagine this with glitter!  I don’t own that one and maybe should, could be very Valentine Dayish.  🙂

I have more to write but…this post is so glittery and perfect that I will close.

Do check out my mom’s blog. .  She did an author interview of Christian author, Rhonda Gibson.  Rhonda is giving copy of her new book What’s in Your Closet? (release date-Feb 12) to a lucky commentator.  Your comment (on my momma’s blog) about the interview puts your name in the hat!

Here is pic of the book cover:

New every morning

Posted in faith, Uncategorized on December 19, 2009 by hollybirdy

One of my children has always had sleeping issues.  He has always been a really, really early riser.  It is imperative that as a general rule we get him to be early.  When he gets overly tired he has always come apart at the seams.  Poor kid.  It took my husband and I awhile to figure out the problem and how best to deal with it.

A few days ago, our son turned 8.  He deals a little better with sleep deprivation now days then he did when he was 2 (praises to the good Lord!).  However, now days when I have to put him to bed later or his overly tired from his day, we have learned that everything looks dismal to him.  He is down on himself, the world and life in general.  At first when I noticed this, I would try to sit with him, chatting and praying.  With experience we learned to just tuck him in and tell him that Jesus and his parents love him and that is all that matters.  That followed by an all out sprint out of the room!  What was always amazing to me was that all was well in morning.

At first, I thought of it as some sort of miracle.  Sleep and his parents fervent prayers to a God who hears us, had made it all better.  This past week, we had a couple late nights in a row (not terribly late but 8:30 or so) and I was reminded of a scripture as I telling him I loved him and sprinting for the hallway.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
    his mercies never come to an end;
    they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.

Each morning, God is faithful.  My little sunbeam gets up with the sun and all is well.  He sometimes even laughs about the things he was worried over the night before.  There is hope yet again…a new day.

“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”

My prayer/quiet time journal…

my journal and wes1_edited copy

My oldest….firstborn…is such a sweetie.  I take my prayer/quiet time journal to church and some mornings my boys draw and write in it.  I have always enjoyed their scribbles and this is one of those times.   It reminds me that this time with my boys is fleeting…my oldest would not spell love that way anymore.  He is growing up fast.

It reminds me that one of my main responsibilies is to teach my boys about God’s word.  To teach the truths that are there.  I added that scripture to the page the other day when I was having my quiet time.  The boys usually flip through the journal and write on pages toward the back of the journal so it had been quite some time since I had looked at the my firstborn’s scribbles and it just so happened that I had come across that scripture recently.

I love that scripture..there isn’t a lot of security or peace in our world anymore…only God can give true peace.

So remember…

Jesus luves you!

(very much!)

Merry Christmas!

Posted in christmas, faith on December 24, 2008 by hollybirdy

Tomorrow we celebrate the birthday of Jesus!  The gift of God’s son to us is free for each of us and the best gift ever given!

It is easy to get caught up in the stuff of Christmas.  I certainly have this year…gotta get this, that done and I have totally overwhelmed myself.   I hear other say they can’t get in the spirit this year.  But nothing can take away the true meaning of Christmas and this is what it is all about….

Praise God for the real gift of Christmas!

Wonderful Wednesday, God’s gift of new teeth

Posted in faith, wonderful Wednesday -scrapbooking with tags , , , on September 10, 2008 by hollybirdy

“God’s going to give me a new tooth!”

My youngest has been saying this and believing it since he knocked out his front tooth at age 2.

And yes…I tell him that indeed God is working on it…he will get a new tooth from God when the time is right.  Of course, I have not shared with him that he will likely be 7 or 8 when this happens! 🙂

A lesson in God’s timing…and my youngest is waiting pretty patiently.  If only I waited so patiently for gifts from God.  If only….

And so…when I saw this cute little tooth fairy pillow idea from Family Fun…I loved it.  A new tooth straight from God!

And I think it gives me an idea for a scrapbook page embellishment.  🙂

A time to pray for our nation….

Posted in faith with tags , on September 9, 2008 by hollybirdy

I am actually kinda excited about all the campaigning and wondering how it is all going to turn out…but that makes me realize that I need to be on my knees praying for the process.

Thanks to my mom, I found out that there is a 40 days to pray the vote.  They have a daily Prayer focus during the days leading up to all the voting.

We are “One Nation under God…” and let us pray to Him that His will be done!

Fun Friday, Worship songs for kids

Posted in faith, fun friday - kids games and toys, my life with tags on September 5, 2008 by hollybirdy

This morning I was checking on one of my “favorite people” blogs.  Most people in this grouping are people I know personally…but there are a few who I have never met but still feel totally blessed by reading their blog.  One of these is Nitty Gritty.  Many of my days have been brighter after I read what Jody has left on her blog.  I was checking on her today since she is getting very close to delivering her bundle of joy! 🙂

Jody has great worship music on her blog.  I enjoy it and play it often.  I got on her blog, checked on her and her music started up.  My 4 year old came in and said it was time for us to go to work. Who am I to argue, right?  After all, I was just checking on Jody and few other things…and I was done.  So…we went to brush his teeth and comb his hair and he started belting out….

My Savior loves,

my Savior lives,

my Savior’s always there for me.

My God He was,

my God He is,

my God He’s always gonna be

Loved it!  Amen, brother! 🙂

And so for this Fun Friday kid’s idea, I will leave you with one of our favorite Kid’s Worship Albums…

I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever (Album)

It doesn’t have Aaron Shurst’s “My Savior My God” on it but it has some good ones. 🙂

Oh, and the non-chorus lyrics of “My Savior My God”….since it is a wonderful song.

I am not skilled to understand
What God has willed, what God has planned
I only know at His right hand
Stands one who is my Savior

I take Him at his word and deed
Christ died to save me, this I read
And in my heart I find a need
Of Him to be my Savior
That He would leave His place on high
And come for sinful man to die
You count it strange, so once did I
Before I knew my Savior
